Long term stress can have a detrimental effect on the way you think, leaving you more vulnerable to anxiety depression and other mental health problems.

Long term stress can cause physical, emotional and behavioural symptoms to develop such as:

             Muscle tension or jaw clenching

            Stomach or digestive problems

Stress increases the amount of a hormone in your body called cortisol which can lead to overeating and cause your body to store fat.

Stress affects all the systems in your body the musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, digestive, nervous and reproductive.

Long term psychological stress can increase levels of oxidative stress which can even contribute to the graying of your hair.

There are two types of stress positive and negative.

Positive stress is necessary for some people because it helps them perform to the best of their abilities such as sports people or actors it helps then stay focused.

The negative stress however is not good for us this brings worry panic for our mental health and as a result our body remains in a constant tense state this leads us unable to relax.

There are many factors that can cause us to have stress they can be work related, financial, relationships, exams or just fear of the unknown. However, it’s how we react and manage to our stress is the key to help us respond in a healthier way that will eventually help us take control and lower our stress levels.

Having enough water in the body is essential for many important processes to take place.

Having enough water in the body is essential for many important processes to take place. From our blood system carrying essential glucose, oxygen and nutrients to cells, to the kidneys getting rid of waste products.

By staying hydrated you help regulate your body temperature, the transport of nutrients around the body, by drinking water you also help to lubricate and cushion your joints and remove waste products from the body. Water helps your kidneys to work more efficiently and filter out waste through frequent urination, water also helps our digestive system function better and helps maintain the skins elasticity.

In the heat it is essential to ensure you drink plenty of water either plain water, flavoured water or fruit juices also melons, cucumber and tomatoes can be a valuable contribution to our overall fluid intake. Our bodies have its own built-in mechanism so when we sweat this helps keep your body cool however your body temperature will rise if you don’t drink enough to replenish what was lost. That’s when you become dehydrated and in turn lose essential minerals needed to help maintain a healthy fluid balance in our bodies.

By the time we feel thirsty our body is already dehydrated and potentially suffering some effects, equally by simply drinking to eliminate the feeling of thirst dose not fully hydrate the body.

By experiencing dizziness, feeling tired, dark colored urine, having a dry mouth, and feeling very thirsty can all be symptoms of dehydration

The best indicator of good hydration is urine colour, a pale straw-coloured urine being a reliable indicator of good hydration. Getting into the habit of drinking regularly is a great way of keeping hydrated.

On average an adult need about 2 litres a day, it’s an excellent way cleanse toxins from your body. Remember to always carry a bottle of water with you when you go for a walk, to the gym, for a run, a meet up with friends, just traveling on the tube or taking a drive in your car
